Headline Leisure Management Logo

Headline Leisure Management (HLM) has been a dominant player in the food and beverage outsourcing industry for the past 10 years. During this time we've focused on Casinos, Hotels and Theatre business, allowing our clients to focus on their core business, while we provide those critical "value adds".

HLM was first established in 1999 by Fournews Developments (Pty) Ltd, for the beverage management at Carnival City Casino on the East Rand. This initial contract was undertaken as a joint venture with the Compass group. We have grown immensely since this first venture and several further contracts have been established nationally.

In October 2005, HLM became a truly South African company with the sale of 50% of its Shareholding to a 100% black empowerment company. The remaining Shareholding is owned by Fournews Developments (Pty) Ltd which is the parent company of the successful South African brand, News Cafe and the recently established Café Fino. The dynamic fusion of these organisations provides Headline Leisure Management with a constant flow of creative and innovative ideas.

At Headline Leisure Management we believe that our ultimate strength is in our investment in people, this belief is carried through to all our operations. This ethos is evident in our insistence that each unit has its own training officer on site and that all senior management participate in outside educational programs.

Facilities & Banqueting venues include: Various News Cafes, Carnival City Casino, Grand West Casino, Windmill Casino, Sibaya Casino, Café Fino, Pearl Valley Golf Estate, Royal Elephant Hotel & Conference Centre and Mangwanani Spa.

Winning the World Cup Tender

In November 2008, 12 companies were invited to tender for the Master Concessionaire Rights for the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup 2009, as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

During the first quarter of 2009, the rights were awarded to us at Headline Leisure Management, at which point we operated as a specialist, subcontracted food and beverage management provider, operating primarily within the leisure industry.

Subsequent to the announcement, we launched a new division to HLM within the group holding company, by the name of HLM Global Sports Events (Pty) Ltd.

We're extremely proud and excited that HLM Global Sports Events (Pty) Ltd were solely responsible for the food and beverage needs of the general public, excluding hospitality offerings, for four stadiums during the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009, and will be responsible for all 10 stadiums during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

A dress rehearsal for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and serious test of the host country's readiness; HLM Global Sports Events (Pty) Ltd left nothing to chance with the employment and training of 1 004 staff members, for "Festival of the Champions" at Ellis Park.

With the intent of uplifting and empowering local communities, these newly appointed hospitality staff have been expertly educated to extend a wholly South African welcome and warm experience to all stadium visitors, specific to Ellis Park, Loftus Versfeld, Free State Mangaung Stadium and Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Says Michael Deftereos, HLM Managing Director, "I believe that we pitted the competing concessionary contenders to the goal post, by our sheer passion, innovation, energy and experience. Furthermore, Headline Leisure Management is dedicated towards long-term relationship building between ourselves and the publics in which we operate, as well as our commitment to achieving a world class food and beverage solution for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and 2010 FIFA World Cup."

HLM Global Sports Events (Pty) Ltd plans to employ and train a further 2 700 community members, in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup.
